Optimizing Stem Students (OS2)

The Optimizing STEM Students (OS2) Project is an innovative approach to holistically meet the needs of high school (junior/senior) students interested in pursuing a STEM degree in college. The approach of the OS2 project is to teach students how to implement practices to develop and sustain clarity of thought, how to identify if and when emotions (fear, overconfidence, doubt) are hindering progress toward accomplishing a goal. Additionally, OS2 provides avenues for students to leverage their personal motivations to succeed through challenging times, while implementing practices to create balance to sustain their focus, and physical health throughout their academic pursuits. The OS2 project augments traditional STEM instruction to more thoroughly prepare students for a continuing educational and professional journey in a STEM field.

The OS2 curriculum was developed from a conceptual model (see below), which includes three components and six factors that we believe, if mastered, allow students to be successful in STEM.
